Professor of Economics

Prof. Dr. Othmane Touat is a Professor of Economics at the University of Algiers 3, Algeria. He earned his Ph.D. in Economic Analysis from the same institution in 2012 and was promoted to full professorship in 2020. With over 18 years of experience in both the banking sector and higher education, he brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to his academic and professional work. In September 2023, he further enriched his academic credentials by obtaining a Master’s degree in Translation (English–French–Arabic) from the Arab Higher Institute for Translation, affiliated with the League of Arab States in Algiers. Before transitioning into academia, Prof.Dr. Othmane Touat worked as a Credit Analyst and Credit Control Officer at Arab Bank Plc’s Algeria branch, where he developed in-depth knowledge of the financial industry. This hands-on experience, combined with his academic training, has enabled him to bridge the gap between economic theory and real-world practice. Prof. Dr. Othmane Touat specializes in international trade and international economics, with a particular focus on issues relevant to the Arab and African regions. His additional research interests include banking and economic development. He currently leads a research team at the University of Algiers 3 that focuses on fintech and digital transformation in the Algerian banking sector, under the Economic Transformation Strategies Research Laboratory. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals both in Algeria and internationally, covering a wide array of economic topics. He has also participated in numerous national and international conferences, where he has presented his research and contributed expert insight on global and regional economic issues. In addition to his academic work, Prof. Dr. Othmane Touat is a prominent contributor to Araa Gulf magazine, where he shares his analysis and perspectives on economic trends and developments with a broad readership. His leadership roles and dedication to excellence reflect a strong commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation in economic thought and practice.
